Are golf shoes a MUST?

for the golf season.. i was thinking just to wear my puma running shoes.. which have average grip... but im reading everywhere that i wont be taken seriously with tennis shoes and not actual golf shoes...

and the golf shoes that i%26#039;ve looked at are all over 50$ .. i dont think it%26#039;s worth it..

but are they a must??? for a school sport???

Are golf shoes a MUST?
I would recommend golf shoes because you need to grip the grass when you swing. In my experience, wearing tennis shoes will cause your feet to slide if you really try to rip a shot.

You could still golf without them... but it might put you at a slight disadvantage. There is no rule saying you must wear them.
Reply:Not really a must. A guy on our varsity team wore skateboard shoes lol Our coach did not like that too much. They do help though and people will probably take you more seriously.
Reply:Golf shoes arent i suppose neccessary unless its raining. If its raining or the ground is wet golf shots are important. Regular sneakers wont give you a good grip and youll probably slip a lot. When its a nice day and stuff its not that important...i forgot my golf shoes once and i ended up shooting one of my better rounds. =] actually i won the golf tourny!
Reply:Besides grip, the other thing golf shoes priovide is stability - when you swing, your weight is shifting from the outside of your right foot, to the outside of your left foot if you swing right handed.

If you grab a pair of golf shoes off the shelf, and try to twist the soles, you%26#039;ll find theyre very stiff. This provides the support you need and keep you from killing your feet.

This might not be an issue for you now, since you are school age, but it%26#039;s something you will want to do in the future.
Reply:You can play barefoot if you want to. Sam Snead used to practice barefoot in an effort to work on balance. It must have worked. With today%26#039;s chemicals. weed killers, and insect killers that are applied to the golf course I don%26#039;t know if playing barefoot is advisable. A simple sneaker is good enough. You%26#039;ll know when you need to graduate to golf shoes.
Reply:a must, no, an advantage...yes, on level ground it shouldnt make a big difference, on an uneven surface or off a hill you will not be able to dig in...on a slightly damp surface not having spikes will be a hinderance...spend the money, you wont regret it...
Reply:go to golfshoeonly.com they have nike for under 20.00 U.S.D.
Reply:If Your shoes determine whether you are taken seriously as a golfer.....there is a problem. Are Golf shoes a %26quot;must%26quot;? Millions of people wear running shoes, cross country shoes, Cross trainers, etc every week playing golf. Is there an advantage....sure is. Better footing in a sport that demands balance precision........and yep they are a bit pricey......go with what you can comfortably afford.
Reply:Here is a golf school that has lots of great info about the golf industry. They may have some tips on whether or not it is OK to where something other than golf shoes. If you are playing quite a bit, it may be something worth investing in.

Hope you find some good information
Reply:Golf shoes are not a must. Your tennis shoes will be fine and may even teach you better balance. I%26#039;m a golf professional and, although I usually wear golf shoes, I have played in sneakers (tennis shoes), sandals and even barefoot. In fact, the late great Sam Snead played barefoot when he was younger.
Reply:They are not a must, but I would recommend in a sport thats already very difficult to give yourself every advantage that you can. If you swing very balanced and never try to really kill the ball I don%26#039;t see a big need for them. I often practice with out them to try to improve my tempo and make sure that I%26#039;m not swinging too hard.
Reply:I have two good pairs of golf shoes and I paid less than $30 for each. A few years ago I got a pair of Nike on clearance from a store closing sale for about $22.00. This winter I just bought another pair of Top Flite golf shoes that are pink and white with a Kiltie from Target for $9.00. I%26#039;m new at golf so I didn%26#039;t know if these would be okay. I also picked up a pair for my friend who plays golf reguarly and she likes them. I%26#039;m always shopping for bargains so I rarely pay full price for anything.

Also try Ebay. I just saw my Top Flite shoe there.

I guess you need to remember golf is not an cheap sport.
Reply:You really do need golf shoes. Golf is hard enough without having to worry about your feet sliding when you swing. Go to tgw.com. They always have some shoes in their clearance section you can get for a decent price.
Reply:for your school golf team... they are a good idea. a lot of tennis shoes have a good grip and you can get away with it. but, golf shoes get a better grip and they will make you seem more like a %26quot;serious golfer%26quot;.

golf shoes are VERY worth the price. I played in nike shox for a year 1/2... then i went out and bought adidas 360%26#039;s and they actually helped my game.. not sure how lol.

but... they aren%26#039;t mandatory but they are a really good idea.

good luck and have fun!! :)
